Gustav Mahler - Symphony No. 2 in C minor “Resurrection”/II. Andante moderato

New York Philharmonic/Leonard Bernstein

Reblogged from fuckyeahclassical: symphonyno2ineminoraccidentalcharm

Arthur Rubinstein playing a Chopin impromptu (op 51 in G flat major).

He was one of the most engaging and commanding pianists of the recording era.  His playing of Chopin may never have been surpassed.  He was also an exponent of other romantic composers, including Brahms, and fine collaborator in chamber music.

A more modern video of him looking fantastic; white haired; and expressive not only in every note but in every unselfconscious flicker of his features, terrifically well filmed, is here

His life story is here.
