Lord Peter Wimsey title music
From the various BBC adaptations of the Dorothy L Sayers detective novels broadcast 1972-1975 with Ian Carmichael in the title role. (The visual from this clip is from The Unpleasantness at the Bellona Club, broadcast in 1973).
The music is clever and catchy, in a 1920s style. Note, particularly, the unexpected final dissonance.
The composer was Herbert Chappell (born 1934). His work for children Daniel Jazz (based on the Book of Daniel) was one of the inspirations for the original Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice collaboration Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.
